Half term is the perfect time to slow down, spend time together, and try something a little different – and this year, we’ve got a brilliant mix of events lined up for families.
Whether you’re planning a first theatre trip, looking for something creative, or simply want a cosy day out away from the screens, there’s something for curious minds of all ages.
A classic story comes to life
From 14–15 February, we’re delighted to welcome Tall Stories back with their enchanting stage adaptation of The Gruffalo’s Child, based on the much-loved book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.
On a wild and windy night, the Gruffalo’s Child ignores her father’s warnings and ventures into the deep dark wood, following snowy tracks and meeting mysterious creatures along the way. With songs, laughs and just the right amount of ‘scary’, this warm and witty production is suitable for everyone aged 3 to 103 and makes a wonderful introduction to live theatre for younger audiences.
Science, but not as you know it
Things get loud, messy, and very exciting on 21 February with Mark Thompson’s Spectacular Science Show. Designed for children and adults alike, this interactive show explores the strange and surprising properties of matter using exploding elephant’s toothpaste, vortex-generating dustbins, and even howling jelly babies.
Awarded Best Kid’s Show at Edinburgh Fringe by The Derek Awards, it’s a fast-paced, fun-filled experience that entertains as much as it educates – and usually sparks a lot of questions on the way home.
Get hands-on with nature
For families who love to make and create together, our Landscape in Layers workshop takes place on 18 February and is suitable for ages 8+. Led by visual artist Katie Sims, this relaxed session explores colour, collage, and the natural environment using geli printing techniques and recycled materials.
Inspired by the South West landscape, participants will experiment, play, and leave with a finished artwork to be proud of.
Quizzing with a purpose
We’re also bringing back our popular Fundraising Quiz on 20 February – a fast, fun and fiercely competitive evening for teams of up to six.
With points on offer for speed as well as knowledge (and the infamous final ‘evil round’), it’s always a lively night. All funds raised help support the work we do year-round, enabling us to continue offering creative and artistic experiences for our community – from family shows and workshops to theatre, music, and film.
