“I love Christmas shows, they are like the perfect Christmas party; there is dancing, singing, music, you laugh and cry, and everyone across the generations is invited” – Emma Williams
Meet Emma, as a director, writer and dramaturge she has created award winning touring productions with theatre companies including Opposable Thumb Theatre, Pickled Image, and, Green Ginger. She has directed Christmas shows for Tobacco Factory Theatres, The Wardrobe Theatre, and Gloucester Guildhall. Based on the outskirts of Taunton, she is thrilled to be working with Taunton Brewhouse for the first time.

“My ambition as writer and director of this year’s Christmas show at Taunton Brewhouse was to deliver all this and tell the funny and often strange story of Pinocchio. In this fantastical tale, big mistakes are made, and the consequences are often very bad. Characters are swallowed by giants of the sea or transformed into four legged animals.”
“Ultimately, I was drawn to this particular story because it’s about not giving up hope. If you have been tricked and lost your way, what do you do? If your world is as small and as uncomfortable as a rubbish bin, how do you find your way out? Whatever age we are, we have all faced difficult moments and found help in the strangest of places. Pinocchio has a sparkly blue fairy and a large team of lifeguards to keep him safe, so when he EVENTUALLY decides to do the right thing, the celebration is spectacular.”

“However, this production is not one person’s vision. A show of this scale requires so many collaborators. From the fantastic team at the Brewhouse, to artists
brought in especially for the production, we have been working, thinking, and dreaming all things Pinocchio. I have also been lucky enough to work with an extraordinary company of performers aged
from 8 to 64.”
“It’s been a fantastic privilege to create this beautiful, boisterous show for Taunton. We hope you have fun. Let’s party!”
