Magic, Mayhem, and Mind-Blowing Science Await this Half Term

February 10, 2025

You’re in for a real treat this February Half Term as we showcase a fantastic line-up of family performances, featuring everything from jaw-dropping science to magical adaptations of popular children’s novels.

The celebrations begin on 18 February with Fairytales, Fables, and Other Assorted Nonsense, a riotous new comedy from Assembleth Theatre. Fairy tales are in turmoil when Little Red Riding Hood takes control of the land with an iron fist. Enter Susan – a brave and bold, yet somewhat reluctant hero – who must free the forest from Red’s oppressive rule. With familiar faces including Snow White, The Three Little Pigs, and Cinderella, this hilarious adventure promises ridiculous mishaps, outlandish love stories, and a barnyard full of talking animals.

On 23 February, prepare for an explosion of fun with Ministry of Science. The UK’s favourite science team returns with an educational yet anarchic approach to the world of science. Watch in awe as they showcase fire tornadoes, self-built hovercrafts, and even exploding balloons. This action-packed show is guaranteed to entertain while also inspiring young minds to think big, loud, and boldly about science.

You can also look forward to Room on the Broom, the Olivier Award-nominated show based on Julia Donaldson’s beloved picture book. From 1 – 2 March, join the witch and her cat as they embark on a journey and pick up an unexpected group of companions – a dog, bird, and frog – along the way. But when disaster strikes in the form of a hungry dragon, will there be room on the broom for everyone? With catchy songs, enchanting puppetry, and plenty of theatrical magic, this production is sure to captivate both children and adults alike.

And finally, don’t miss There’s a Monster in Your Show, playing from 28 – 30 March. This interactive musical brings Tom Fletcher’s popular Who’s in Your Book? series to life on stage, and you can join Little Monster and his friends Dragon, Alien, and Unicorn as they create a hilarious, chaotic show together. Packed with comedy, creativity, and heart, this performance is perfect for young audiences eager to get involved.

If you’re feeling creative, we’re also delighted to offer a number of family workshops throughout the holidays. Our special lino printing workshop, designed especially for young people aged 11-15 years, will allow participants to design, carve, and print their own lino tile inspired by popular culture, while our lego printing workshop will give children aged 8-11 years the opportunity to make bold and inspired artwork.

Looking ahead, Easter will bring even more excitement in the form of Michael Morpurgo’s Farm Boy, the compelling sequel to War Horse, and Julia Donaldson’s heart-warming adaptation of The Smartest Giant in Town.
