Distillery Takeover Week At Taunton Brewhouse!

Long exposure image of dangers on a stage

On Mon 20 September all spaces at Taunton Brewhouse will be given over to a selection of artists and companies who will create new performance projects. They will receive seed funding and organisational support to help develop their ideas, which will be presented to a live audience at the end of the week.

This is an incredibly exciting initiative to encourage and support artists and companies and allow them the time and freedom to develop new work, with the additional opportunity at the end of the week to showcase it to an audience. It is all made possible by funding from the Weston Culture Fund, part of the Garfield Weston Foundation, which is specifically for a programme of activity to develop and support regional artists under Taunton Brewhouse’s Distillery strand.

Taunton Brewhouse were inundated with proposals which were whittled down to three. The visiting companies and artists are:

Jennifer Fletcher & Harry Blake who will present MERMAIDS a warm-hearted comedy about a drama group in a remote Cornish Fishing Village. It is a feel-good show about teenage obsession, local politics, and our need for glitter in a world full of grey.

Finlay Carroll, Bee Taylor & Josie Griffiths who will present THERE’S NO TIME (THE WORLD IS DYING) described as a ‘radical performance project exploring and challenging the potential of theatre as a means of responding to the climate emergency’.

And finally Hope Thain, Pearl Andrews-Horrigan & Oscar Killen who will present TWELVE DANCING PRINCESSES a musical adaptation of a fairy tale.

The visiting artists have a wide range of professional experience, some only recently graduated from university, others with a string of residencies and commissions under their belts, but they all share one thing in common; they will get the chance to learn and further develop their practice with support from theatre professionals who will be on hand throughout the residencies.

Will Bourdillon, Artistic Programme Manager at the Brewhouse said ‘it is shaping up to be a really exciting week, with some hugely talented artists coming in. We are grateful to Garfield Weston for their support and are very much looking forward to seeing the performances from each company on the 25th. It’s going to be a truly special evening that we’re really excited to share with our audiences, so come on down!’

The Distillery Takeover Scratch night is on Saturday 25 September at 7pm. Tickets are £5. To book please go to www.tauntonbrewhouse.co.uk or ring the Box Office on 01823 283244
