Discover the Magic of Family Theatre this October Half Term

October 2, 2024

This October, the Brewhouse comes to life with magical family shows that promise to captivate audiences of all ages.

It’s the perfect time to join us for some great autumn events, and with half term just around the corner, there’s no better way to keep little ones entertained than a trip to the theatre.

The fun begins in early October with a special performance of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Witness Eric Carle’s colourful and imaginative stories come to life on stage with faithful adaptations of four beloved classics: Brown Bear, 10 Little Rubber Ducks, The Very Lonely Firefly, and of course, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Featuring a menagerie of over 70 puppets, this critically acclaimed production will be a visual feast for all ages.

But the magic doesn’t stop there. Expect the unexpected with Little Red Riding Could, a playful retelling of the classic fairy tale. Red Riding Hood isn’t so little anymore, and she’s done with wearing a hood. In fact, she’s questioning everything. Created by the Bristol-based Roustabout Theatre, this mischievous new show is packed with songs and silliness, challenging traditional storytelling and encouraging audiences to write their own story.

As well as new work, we’re also welcoming back family favourites including The Amazing Bubble Man. This popular show has been wowing audiences for over 30 years, with artist Louis Pearl performing to sell-out crowds worldwide. With breathtaking bubble tricks, comedy, and audience participation, this interactive performance is brimming with wonder.

Also returning to the Taunton stage are The Trash Test Dummies. Hailing from the land ‘Down Under’, they deliver a dump truck of side-splitting slapstick, daring acrobatics, and dextrous juggling. These highly skilled Aussies take audiences on an imaginative, trash-themed adventure, providing a perfect introduction to the world of comedy-circus.

And if that wasn’t enough, there’s more family-friendly treats in store this festive season. Rod Campbell’s Dear Zoo leaps from page to stage in November, before the theatre is magically transformed into a winter wonderland for our Christmas adaptation of Pinocchio.
