Gallery opens it’s doors for the first time since The Brewhouse re-opened in Spring 2014

The Brewhouse Gallery opened its doors for the first time on Saturday 26 September, after being off-limits since Taunton Theatre Association were given permission to re-open the venue in spring 2014.

Work was needed to the roof of the gallery which was not itself included in the original lease granted to TTA by Taunton Deane Borough Council.  It was a nail biting week for Hand of Four artists as the management team waited for permission to re-enter the gallery and re-claim the last part of the arts centre for public exhibitions.

Hand of Four (HO4) brings together four contemporary British artists working in Somerset: Fiona Bradford, Sarah Hitchens, Deborah Westmancoat and Gillian Widden. They will be exhibiting for the first time as a group as part of Somerset Art Weeks at The Brewhouse, Taunton, and their work marks both a continuation of each artist’s practice and a response to the Somerset Art Works theme of ‘Momentum’.

The collective itself has gained a momentum of its own: “As HO4 we have been working together with a common goal: to enable the group to focus on increased pace and direction in both collective and individual practice, particularly during times of transition within the work. Our aim is to mutually encourage the support of artistic endeavour, research and the critical thinking required to ensure we are asking the right questions of ourselves and each other”
