We’re pleased to share that our Executive Director, Vickie Robbins, has been recognised with the Community Impact Award at the University of Wolverhampton’s Apprenticeship Gala.
The award celebrates apprentices who go above and beyond to use their knowledge and skills in support of local communities. Nominees are judged on their commitment to enhancing access and participation, supporting social mobility, and improving community wellbeing.
Vickie, who is currently undertaking a Senior Leadership Apprenticeship at the University of Wolverhampton, was praised for her outstanding dedication to making the arts accessible and meaningful for all. Since joining the Brewhouse, she has championed a culture of inclusivity, listened closely to staff and volunteers, and introduced new initiatives that have made the theatre a welcoming hub for the whole community.
Among her many achievements is the creation of Movie Mondays, a weekly cinema club which has grown into a much-loved social gathering for older patrons. She has also expanded the theatre’s outreach by introducing Warm Spaces and Pay It Forward ticketing schemes, enabling families and individuals facing financial hardship to experience performances and activities they might not otherwise have been able to enjoy.
Vickie has built meaningful partnerships with local charities, offering space, resources, and support, and has ensured that we work hand-in-hand with services that support some of the town’s most vulnerable people. Under her leadership, the theatre has also been recognised as one of the most age-friendly organisations in the region, winning Gold at the Bristol and Bath Tourism Awards.
Speaking about her award, Vickie said: “I was truly surprised and humbled to receive this recognition. I believe our engagement within the Taunton community is so important, and that we should make the most of our resources to support all the residents and visitors to the town.”
She added: “I accepted this award on behalf of the whole staff and volunteer team who deliver our community programme. Being a mature student studying for a master’s degree in strategic leadership has been challenging but extremely rewarding, and this award is just the icing on the academic cake!”
