Fabric can make or break the success a garment, this masterclass is all about helping you choose, understand, and work with fabric more confidently. Join Ali for this hands on presentation, designed for dressmakers, covering how different fabrics behave, their suitability for garments, and how to get the best results for a variety of projects. Ideal for beginner sewers or anyone who would like to develop their knowledge of fabrics.

We’ll explore natural, synthetic, and blended fabrics, learning how to identify them, assess drape, weight, stretch, and structure, and match them to the right garment styles. You’ll discover how the right fabric choices can transform your finished pieces.

You’ll also learn practical tips for and advice on what to look out for when buying fabric in person or online and have the opportunity to play and sew with some samples.

Expect real garments from Ali’s handmade wardrobe, touch and feel comparisons and expert guidance that you can immediately apply to your own sewing projects. There will be plenty of time for discussion, feel free to bring patterns that you may need help choosing fabric for. You don’t need to bring anything for this workshop, however a notebook is handy to have to keep your own personal notes. There will be more info available on Ali’s upcoming workshops and an opportunity to book on the day.

Tea and coffee will be available.
