Join Helen McComick for a fun and creative session where you will learn how to make your very own Green Man – a traditional symbol of rebirth, growth, and the beauty of nature. Helen will guide you step by step through the pottery-making process, from shaping the clay to adding expressive details, so your Green Man has a character all of its own. Whether you’re completely new to pottery or already have some experience, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to explore your creativity and connect with this timeless design.

During the morning you will learn traditional hand-building techniques to create the face and foliage of your Green Man, adding leaves, textures, and personal touches to bring it to life. in the afternoon Helen will teach how to paint coloured slips onto the Green Man and use sgraffito to add details to its leaves.

All materials and equipment will be provided – just bring along an apron or wear old clothes, and make sure any long nails are trimmed. After the workshop, Helen will carefully take your Green Man home to be fired in her kiln. Your finished piece will be ready to collect from the Brewhouse approximately 6 weeks after the workshop, depending on drying times. We will let you know when it’s ready to pick up.

Please feel free to bring along a packed lunch to enjoy in your lunch break, tea and coffee will be available in the workshop room.

The workshop runs 10:15 – 16:45

Young people attending must be aged 12+ and must be accompanied by an adult aged 18+. Adults can accompany children and not make (no ticket) and be there to support child OR they can purchase a ticket for themselves and make as well.
