Returning to Art – Watercolour Landscapes

This course will encourage an intuitive approach to watercolours, accepting the beauty of the medium when it is outside of your control.

You will develop an understanding of washes, wet-on-wet techniques, and how to encourage and use back runs to your advantage to create blooms and expressive outcomes full of movement. You’ll also consider how to find imagery in abstract starting points and allow the paint to guide you in compositional decisions. You will be looking for natural forms and landscape-like imagery within these initial explorations – creating landscape paintings from the most successful ones. Feel free to bring along any landscape source photos that may help to inspire your outcomes.

By the end of the course, you will have completed a series of landscape paintings to take away with you. You will have also developed your confidence and skills in exploring and experimenting with media.

About the workshop leader:

The course is led by Lynne Mackay, an artist and secondary school art teacher for over 20 years. As a farmer’s daughter growing up on the Somerset Levels, she has always had a huge passion for natural beauty. Lynne is inspired by the surrounding landscapes, flora and fauna of the Somerset Levels and Cornish seascapes.

Lynne loves to capture treasured memories in pencil, acrylic and watercolour painting, reduction lino printing, hand embroidered felt appliqué and machine embroidery.
